Making the DePaul Mission Manifest
Social engagement is at the heart of a DePaul education. Through the Office of Academic Affairs, the university has developed the vision of becoming a model for 21st century higher education that makes institutional engagement with society a primary goal.
Through care for and service to others, deep involvement in the life of the community and the pursuit of solutions to society's problems, the university broadens the definition of learning and scholarship. Here are just a few of the programs and entities within Academic Affairs that help bring DePaul's mission to life:
Steans Center for Community-Based Service Learning
Founded to integrate the service concept into the DePaul's curricula, the Steans Center engages students, faculty, and community organizations in relationships that seek to fulfill DePaul's mission and benefit the Chicago community.
Centers and Institutes
Created to address needs in society and areas of study, DePaul's nearly 40 Centers and Institutes create a unique learning experience for students that's intimately tied to public service through focused research, programs, workshops and resources.
Egan Urban Center
To build bridges between the community and the University, the Egan Urban Center provides educational opportunities for students, professors and community members such as conferences, lectures and community-based service learning projects.
