Participating in Commencement - Law

Your commencement activities will take place in downtown Chicago, at the Civic Opera House and Two N. Riverside Plaza.

DIRECTIONS FOR GRADUATES
Arrive one hour before your ceremony start time and enter the Civic Opera House through the doors located at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Wacker Drive, marked "Stage Door" on the map below. If you wish to have photos taken with family members, please plan to do so before the ceremony begins or at the reception after the ceremony.

Two North Riverside Plaza Lyric Opera Bridge | Madison Street Washington Boulevard Civic Opera House Main Entry Stage Door When your name is called, proceed across the stage at a dignified pace. You will receive a diploma cover from the president of DePaul University, Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M.. Please note that your diploma will not be included in the diploma cover you receive at the ceremony — it will be mailed to you 4-6 weeks after graduation after your credits have been verified. Please see Preparing to Graduate for more information.

Please demonstrate respect for your fellow graduates and plan to stay for the duration of your ceremony. Commencement is expected to last approximately 1½ to 2 hours.

You will be asked to turn in your cap & gown after the ceremony. It is your sole responsibility to return the regalia before leaving the ceremony. If your cap and gown are not returned in good condition, the costs for these items will be charged to your account. Academic regalia can cost $300-800 depending on the degree, so be sure to return your regalia promptly and in good condition.

A celebratory reception will be held after the ceremony at 2 N. Riverside Plaza, right across the river from the Civic Opera House.

Guests may enter the Civic Opera House through the main entrance located at the corner of Madison Street and Wacker Drive. Please ask your guests to demonstrate respect for all graduates and plan to stay for the duration of the ceremony. Commencement is expected to last approximately 1½ to 2 hours.

ACCESSIBILITY
The Civic Opera House is a fully handicapped-accessible facility. A team of professional ushers will be on hand to assist all individuals. If you have family members who have special seating needs, please be sure you have indicated that on you on-line Degree Conferral Application. Failure to do so may mean that seating is not available for your family member(s).
